Rammed Earth construction uses forms similar to poured-in-place concrete.
At CNBW, the Rammed Earth project was one of four columns which will eventually
support a roof above an outdoor oven.

|
The soil mix is poured into the form in lift no more than 8 inches deep.
Before more dirt can be added, the lift is compacted down to 5 inches.

|
After the Rammed Earth has cured overnight, Keith Lindauer removes the forms.

The finished column. Near the bottom you can see layers of different colors.
This was done intentionally to give the column a geological look. Because we
rushed the pounding and didn't get into the corners real good, there is a
little bit of sluffing at the edges.
