Flying to Middle Caicos

Middle Caicos' quaint but adequate airport. I never figured out why the terminal building (in the distance) is so far from the runway (behind the camera). Scheduled flights arrive and departed several times a day and you can buy tickets from an agent in the terminal. If you have tickets already, there's no need to even go inside.
This is actually one of the bigger planes that serves Middle Caicos. Pack lightly! On the day we left, the first two planes didn't have room for all our luggage. Adrian, leaning on the plane, came to our rescue. Of course, being stranded on a tropical island didn't look so bad, either.

The plane is parked maybe 30 feet from where we parked our rented pickup. The communal luggage cart doesn't steer too well so try to drop your bags near one of the gates.

Tourist development is rather limited on Middle Caicos. But what there is is well done. The airport sign is an example.

King's Road

For the adventurous, a dirt road crosses the interior of the island. This road is known as the King's Road or Royal Road.
The King's Road cuts inland from the village of Bambarra to the airport at Conch Bar. At the highest point on this road you can look out over the villas on Bambarra beach.

Looking for a Job and a Place to Live

For a few days we had use of Ernest Forbes's old taxi. I almost think I could retire to this.
Out with the Sunday Real Estate section? Not on Middle Caicos. A machete and binoculars are the tools of the prospective land owner. A map and a GPS might be nice, too.
